-Okay, tumblr. I feel like we need to sit down and have a chat about many of your reactions to what Martha said to Ten in Smith and Jones as some of the reactions I have seen in this post has made me raise my eyebrows.
-She is not wrong to call him out when he calls himself a doctor. It doesn’t make her a bitch or a cunt because she refuses to accept his reality as her reality. Martha Jones is not wrong because as far she knows and in her reality you go to school to be a doctor. She herself is attempting to be a doctor and why should she accept this bloke’s answer that he’s called the doctor without apparently having passed the tests.
-Also, because you know Ten as the Doctor doesn’t mean Martha does. She JUST met him. Although we as a viewer know that this is the Doctor, she doesn’t. It is quite acceptable for her to reject his assertion that he is the Doctor.
-Second, Martha Jones is a type of character for whom a title has to be earned. We have seen this characteristic in her through out the whole season. She never takes things as is but it has to be proven to her. For example, until the Doctor shows that he does indeed have a tardis she doesn’t accept it as reality. Or further in the season when she gets told that she is a legend she tells them to not accept it as a reality because they don’t know.
-Third, it’s sickening that a fandom will jump on a female character because she refuses to acknowledge a male character’s reality as truth while the same would never be true if the situation were reversed. When a female character apparently demands that what the male character is saying is not something she says as a truth, it’s acceptable to label her a cunt or bitch as an attempt to degrade her.
-There might be many reasons to hate Martha Jones (doubtful) but because she didn’t accept Ten’s assertion should not be one of them.
